A New Populist Platform

This is an open letter on the presidential election.  Many of us are long tired of partisan debates, and institutionalized corruption, and we just want our political leaders to help focus our collective will on issues critical to the general welfare.  Divisions can be exploited for narrow political gain and are a favorite tool of corrupt leaders.  We call for a new populism based on unity and solidarity because it is based in an idea of justice as fairness.  If we could consider and create policy without knowing our social standing, then we can finally have government and laws that are fair to all.

This is the beginning of a platform proposal that would commit those who adopt it to work to end violence and discrimination in our society.  We say that if we commit collectively to the goal of fairness, then any other collective goal will be open to the expression of our collective will.

Here are some key points for the platform:

  • 100 percent participation politics.  Create the necessary peer production assets to continuously increase the participation of citizens in politics.  First registering and voting, then participating in policy formation and leadership.  Eliminate legal barriers to voting and participation in political life.
  • Address the structural roots of corruption in the criminal use of money, and how the financial system actually supports criminal enterprise.  A new understanding of the role of currencies and how they are created is needed to begin to form a cohering policy.  We cannot continue to have a financial system that is based on smoke and mirrors.
  • Tax reform.  We can do a much better job of fairly collecting the revenue needed for the operations of government.  If our currency system is designed for the financing of collective projects, we could potintially engage in large collective projects without any coersive funding through centrallaized taxing authorities.  If the Apollo project was collectively funded in this way, we would be colonizing near space by now.  There is a compromise to be had between those wanting a much smaller government and those wanting to pursue collective goals that require public support.
