This book will need to find its way into my library, not sure why I don't have it already. It should be clear already that I am influenced by this work. The missing link is between semiotics and cognition. Piercean semiotics is the key to deeper analysis of the emergence of self from the autonomous systems processes already well described by Maturana, Varella and others. Within the operational closure of autonomous entities (selves) we find the space and necessity for semiotic process. Within this closure there is the space for the operation of complex, internally consistent systems that are directly coupled to the world (via structural coupling).
