The current scientific understanding of physical interactions. It isn't complete, but is very well tested, accurate and internally consistent. It doesn't yet unify gravity, but all other interactions of the strong and weak nuclear forces and electromagnetics. Meta-theories like string theory want to provide a single theory that not only might integrate gravity, but explain the standard model itself. Why these rules and no other rule are what we see.
